The Silver Pines YW got off to a wonderful start in 2012
with their New Beginnings program. The
theme was an Olympic theme and each of the girls represented a different value
and related the value to being an Olympian.
The YW worked very hard on all of the decorations, programs, and
international food (enchiladas, homemade salsa, pizza and bread sticks, hummus
and pita, and delicious Ducle de Leche.
It was a wonderful event, and you could really feel the spirit. It was obvious that their hard work and
dedication paid off.

The
Young Women continue to work on their Personal Progress with helpful reminders
from Sister Cindy Solgere. It’s amazing
to see achievements that the young women make!
March
brought the Chili Cook off, which was a huge success. Sister Buhanan, our camp leader, headed up a
fantastic Chili Cook Off, and the Young Women were able to raise money for
camp! We had lots of chili and
cornbread, and a delicious dessert auction.
There was also a fun live auction!
March
also included the Arise and Shine Forth Challenge that was issued by the Stake
YW. The challenge is to read the Book of
Mormon by September 8th. The
YW and leaders have been working on this, and we look forward to also being
able to pass of our Virtue Value Project by doing this challenge!
March
was also a month that started a fun tradition of having guest youth teachers
for YW. We started with Katie Solgere,
and we have also been pleased to hear from Erin Jensen and Sierra Noyce! What wonderful leaders these young women are! Speaking of leaders, Sierra and Deynn took
the lead in design the awesome t-shirt for camp! It was a great design, and everyone looked
great in the bright green shirt!
Also
in March, the young women enjoyed hearing the General Young Women
Broadcast. We were able to meet and have
dinner before. It was both a fun and spiritual
evening for all. The music and talks
were very inspired. We even saw members
of our own stake in some of the video presentation. It was cool to see our very own Houston
temple on the big screen.
Finally,
we ended March on a high note. They YW
joined together to help Delynn finish her Personal Progress by planting flowers
in the colors of the values in front of the church. It was a lot of fun to get our hands dirty
and do something to beautify the building grounds. What a fantastic choice of projects. Delynn inspired us all to work on completing
our Personal Progress.
Speaking
of inspiration, Sierra completed reading the Book of Mormon again, along with
40 hours of service; which earned her an honor bee. What an amazing accomplishment!
April
5-7th was our Youth Conference.
Many of the youth were able to attend and said that they had a great
time! They were able to mix fun with a
lot of spiritual experiences. The month
of May was a combination of graduation excitement and Girls Camp preparation. We were very proud of our graduates, Edie
Ehlert and Erin Jensen! Way to go
Ladies! We’ll be so excited to see what
lies ahead for you, but we expect you to visit us often!
We
had many fun mutual activities this year including our fun planning activity, Capture
the Flag with the YM, quilt making, heart-attack service project, walking at
the park and ice cream, movie night, family history activity, and many trips to
the temple.
Girls
Camp at Camp Ta-Ku-La was a huge success!
Our amazing camp director, Dayna Buhanan ensured that the girls had a
fantastic time at camp. Leaders were
able to go up for Bishop’s Night, and it was so much fun to see all that the
girls did. There was a lot of singing,
games, and fun! Each of the girls from
the Silver Pines ward shared their testimony, and it was a very special night.
We
are looking forward to a great rest of the year!
