April
14 --Special Fireside and Night Out with Katherine Nelson
Katherine Nelson plays
Emma Smith in the movies "Emma Smith: My Story" and "Joseph
Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration"
It would be a great YW
night to watch one of these movies!
Have you taken the challenge?
At the Fireside on Sunday, The Stake Presidency, YW Stake
Presidency, and YM Stake Presidency issued the
"Arise and Shine Forth Challenge" to all YW
and YM of the Cypress Texas Stake, and their leaders.
This is the challenge:
- Read
the Book of Mormon daily beginning today.
- Have
personal prayer daily beginning today.
- We
want them to strive to do this for 21 days straight in order to form this
daily habit, and continue on until they finish.
- Goal
date to complete reading the Book of Mormon is Saturday, September 8,
2012.
- They
are to bring their tracking cards back to the Culminating Stake
Fireside on Sunday, September 9. They will be treated to a very
special program that evening, and be recognized for their efforts.
- There
is no required amount that they should read per day, we only ask that they
open them and read daily; whether it is 1 verse or many chapters.
- If
they miss a day- no problem. Pick it up the next day, and keep going!
- A
suggestion (guideline) in order to complete the Book of Mormon by the goal
date, is to read 3 pages or 34 verses each day.
- The
back of the card is lined, for them to make notes of impressions,
experiences, thoughts that come to them through their reading.
- Occasionally
we will send out a reminder/encouragement to forward to your YW.
Tracking cards were handed out to all in attendance, and we
sent home extra cards with leaders that were in attendance, for those who were
not. We do have plenty of extra cards. Please contact us if you need more, or
you may make copies of the attachment. (The tracking card is double sided-so
if you are making your own copies, you will need to make sure and line it up
accordingly.)
We feel that personal prayer and reading the scriptures are
critical in building ones faith and testimony, and establishing a relationship
with the Godhead. In so doing the youth will be better able to withstand
temptation, live the gospel of Jesus Christ, and be able to truly let their
light shine on a daily basis. We hope that you too will join the youth in
accepting this challenge, and encourage them along the way!
Sincerely,
Your young womens presidency
That's a great idea to watch the movie! I wonder if we should offer to anyone that is wanting to do something that spring break week? Anyway--it would be neat to see it before the fireside!
